Ceasefire Takes Effect at 5 PM Saturday, Says Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri

New Delhi, May 10 – In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to halt all military engagements on land, air, and sea starting at 5 PM on Saturday, following high-level talks between the two nations’ Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs).

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri made the announcement in New Delhi, confirming that the DGMOs of both countries had a direct conversation at 3:35 PM on Saturday afternoon. During this call, it was mutually decided to enforce a complete cessation of hostilities across all domains of military action.

"It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, and in the air and sea, with effect from 1700 hours IST Saturday," Misri stated.

He also mentioned that both sides have issued instructions to their respective forces to implement the ceasefire immediately. As part of the agreement, the two DGMOs will reconnect on May 12 at 12 noon to review and reinforce the understanding.

US Role in Mediation

The announcement followed a statement by US President Donald Trump, who revealed that the ceasefire was the result of US-mediated talks between the two South Asian neighbors. President Trump described the development as a “full and immediate” ceasefire.

The agreement comes amid heightened tensions following recent cross-border operations and retaliatory military actions, raising hopes of de-escalation in the region.

Both governments are expected to issue further details after the follow-up DGMO meeting scheduled for May 12.
