New Delhi, February 28 – Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Friday engaged in productive discussions with European Union commissioners Jessika Roswall and Wopke Hoekstra, highlighting mutual interests and collaboration in the areas of environment, forestry, and climate change.
Minister Yadav, through a statement on social media platform X, emphasized the dialogue on enhancing scientific and technical cooperation, particularly in resource efficiency, the circular economy, and waste recycling—including management of battery waste.
During the meeting, Yadav reassured the EU commissioners that India is progressing effectively towards meeting its updated nationally determined contributions (NDCs)—the country's climate action goals committed internationally.
The discussions coincide with European Union President Ursula von der Leyen’s two-day visit to India, accompanied by her delegation comprising senior EU leaders, which began on Thursday.
The meeting underscores India's strategic emphasis on international cooperation to address global environmental challenges and reaffirms the EU's commitment to fostering deeper collaboration with India in sustainable development and climate action.
