Kathmandu, May 11 – In a gesture of bilateral cooperation and regional climate commitment, India on Sunday gifted 15 electric vehicles to Nepal to support the upcoming international dialogue, 'Sagarmatha Sambad'.
The Nepal government is set to host the summit from May 16 to 18 in Kathmandu, with the theme "Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity". The vehicles will play a key role in facilitating the transportation of delegates and officials attending the high-profile event.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, formally handed over the electric vehicles to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu.
According to a statement by Nepal’s Foreign Ministry, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to sustainable practices and regional collaboration in the fight against climate change.
The Indian Embassy also released a statement highlighting Ambassador Srivastava’s best wishes for the success of the summit, reaffirming India’s support for Nepal’s progress and development.
Foreign Minister Deuba expressed sincere appreciation for India’s contribution, noting that the electric vehicles will enhance the operational efficiency of the summit and align with its environmental focus.
The 'Sagarmatha Sambad' is expected to host around 300 participants, including climate scientists, environmentalists, government officials, diplomats, media professionals, and other stakeholders from both Nepal and the international community. The event aims to spotlight the pressing challenges that climate change poses to mountain ecosystems and global sustainability.
