February 12, New Delhi: India has once again emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive reforms within the United Nations.
Speaking on the UN80 initiative, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, said that real and meaningful reform of the UN Security Council is essential to make it relevant, contemporary, credible, and effective. He emphasized that reforms must ensure that the development pillar of the UN is not adversely affected in the process.
UN80 is a reform strategy aimed at improving efficiency and reducing costs within the organization. The United Nations is marking its 80th anniversary throughout 2025 and into 2026, commemorating eight decades of promoting peace, human rights, and development since its establishment in 1945.
Under the theme “Building Our Future Together,” the UN80 initiative focuses on strengthening global cooperation and reforming multilateral institutions to address modern challenges.
