New Delhi, May 11 — India on Sunday revealed that it inflicted significant losses on the Pakistani military during a high-stakes three-day confrontation, including downing advanced fighter jets and damaging key military installations near Islamabad. The details were disclosed in a press briefing by top Indian military officials, including Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai.

India Achieved Strategic Objectives, Says DGMO

Lt Gen Ghai said the Indian Armed Forces achieved all their intended objectives during Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. According to Ghai, the operation resulted in the deaths of 35–40 Pakistani military personnel and the elimination of over 100 terrorists, including high-value operatives like Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed — all linked to the IC 814 hijacking and the Pulwama attack.

“Our actions were focused, measured and non-escalatory. However, any threat to our sovereignty or the safety of our citizens will be met with decisive force,” Ghai asserted.

Pakistani Fighter Jets Downed, Key Bases Targeted

Air Marshal AK Bharti confirmed that Indian forces downed multiple Pakistani aircraft, though he refrained from specifying the exact number. "Their planes were prevented from entering our airspace. While we don't have wreckage, we are certain some were shot down," he said.

Responding to foreign media reports of Indian aircraft losses, Bharti acknowledged that "losses are part of combat" but emphasized that "all our pilots are back home."

Key Pakistani military bases — including Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian — were targeted in retaliatory strikes under Operation Sindoor. These strikes were carried out after Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military and civilian areas on the night of May 9–10.

Ceasefire Call Initiated by Pakistan, Says Ghai

The DGMO also disclosed that his Pakistani counterpart initiated a call on Saturday afternoon, requesting an end to hostilities. Both sides agreed to cease all military action on land, air, and sea from 5:00 PM IST the same day.

India Mourns Fallen Heroes

Lt Gen Ghai paid tribute to five Indian personnel and civilians who lost their lives during the operation. "We salute their bravery and stand united in their honour," he said.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, has now come to represent a pivotal military and strategic response aimed at neutralizing terrorist threats and deterring further aggression.
