India Keeps Indus Waters Treaty Measures Intact Despite Ceasefire with Pakistan

No Change in Punitive Measures Following Pahalgam Terror Attack, Say Sources

New Delhi, May 10 – India has made it clear that its punitive actions against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, will continue despite the recent ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

Government sources confirmed on Saturday that the measures announced on April 23 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack will remain firmly in place. "Terrorism will not go unpunished and India's resolve on terrorism remains firm," the sources emphasized.

The clarification follows an understanding reached between India and Pakistan to halt military hostilities that had escalated over the past several days. Although both sides agreed to a cessation of firing and other military actions, India has drawn a firm line on maintaining pressure through diplomatic and strategic channels.

According to the sources, while Pakistan has described the ceasefire as a bilateral arrangement, the announcement was first made by US President Donald Trump. In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump claimed credit for mediating the ceasefire.

"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE," Trump wrote. He added, "Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

The ceasefire follows intense military exchanges between the two nations after the Pahalgam attack, which claimed multiple lives and triggered strong retaliatory measures from India, including missile strikes and policy decisions targeting Pakistan’s interests.

Despite the diplomatic thaw brought on by the ceasefire, India’s message is clear — its counter-terrorism stance remains uncompromised.
