5G Expansion Reaches 82% of Population in Record Time

Gwalior, May 17 – Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday highlighted India’s rapid advancements in the telecommunications sector, asserting that the country is at the forefront of a global revolution under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Speaking on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Scindia emphasized that India is not only accelerating 5G adoption but is also preparing to shape global rules for the next-generation 6G technology.

“In just 22 months since the rollout of 5G, this information revolution has reached 82% of the population across 99% of India’s districts. Going forward, India will play a crucial role in crafting the global framework for 6G technology,” Scindia said.

India Post: Strengthening Public Service Through Logistics

Highlighting the ongoing digital transformation, Scindia also praised India Post for expanding its range of services and maintaining its status as one of the largest logistics and distribution networks in the world.

“India Post operates with 1.64 lakh post offices and 2.5 lakh postal workers. Every postal worker functions with the motto ‘Postal Service is Public Service’—a slogan I personally designed in 2008,” said Scindia, reflecting on his earlier tenure as Union Minister of State for Communications.

Citizen-Led Boycott Reflects National Sentiment

Scindia also endorsed the public’s decision to boycott Turkiye and Azerbaijan, following their support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.

“This is an emotional and voluntary decision by the citizens. The nation always comes first, and no Indian will ever compromise on national security,” he asserted.

Observing World Telecommunication Day

Observed annually on May 17, World Telecommunication and Information Society Day aims to raise global awareness of the internet's transformative impact and emerging technologies while also working to bridge the digital divide.

Scindia's address underscored India’s readiness to adapt to technological changes and lead and define them on the global stage.
