Trump, Rubio, Vance Hail Ceasefire

President Trump made the declaration on Truth Social, saying,

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the American diplomatic effort, applauding the statesmanship of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“The Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio said, adding that he and US Vice President JD Vance had been in close contact with senior officials from both nations.
Rubio said discussions included Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, Indian NSA Ajit Doval, and Pakistani NSA Asim Malik.

Vice President Vance also acknowledged the achievement, posting on X,

“Great work from the President's team, especially Secretary Rubio. And my gratitude to the leaders of India and Pakistan for their hard work and willingness to engage in this ceasefire.”

Pakistan Confirms Ceasefire, Reopens Airspace

Confirming the ceasefire from Islamabad, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said,

“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Dar revealed that hotline diplomacy between military officials played a pivotal role.

“Due to hectic diplomacy which had been going throughout the day, the military channel of the hotline was activated and this thing happened,” he told Geo News.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) also announced the reopening of national airspace for all traffic, lifting earlier restrictions that had disrupted flight operations amid the military standoff.

Ground-Level Confirmation From Both Sides

Indian government sources noted that the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan initiated the contact, leading to a bilateral understanding. According to officials, firing and military action were halted on land, air, and sea from the agreed time.

In New York, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the development.

“We are monitoring but we welcome all efforts to de-escalate the conflict,” said Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq.

Background: Ceasefire Follows Escalation

The ceasefire was announced shortly after India and Pakistan exchanged strikes targeting each other's military installations, escalating a dangerous conflict. Tensions had surged after a series of cross-border incidents, triggering widespread concerns over regional stability.

The swift move to de-escalate is being hailed as a rare moment of diplomatic success amid intense geopolitical rivalry.
