India Rebuts Pakistan’s “False” Military Claims, Slams Targeting of Civilians in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab
New Delhi, May 10 — India on Saturday issued a stern response to what it called Pakistan’s “provocative” and “escalatory” military actions, while firmly rejecting Islamabad’s claims of destroying Indian military installations and critical infrastructure as “completely false”.Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, addressing a media briefing, accused Pakistan of launching a “wanton campaign” targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, particularly in the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, amid heightened military tensions between the two countries.
India Rejects Allegations on Air Force Bases and S-400 Installation
Misri dismissed Pakistan's assertions that its forces had destroyed the Sirsa and Surat Air Force Stations, as well as the S-400 missile system base in Adampur, calling them “completely false.”“Claims made about large sections of Indian critical infrastructure, power systems, cyber systems etc. being attacked and destroyed are completely false,” he said, accusing Pakistan of spreading misinformation for “obvious purposes.”
Civilian Areas Targeted in Jammu, Punjab
The foreign secretary condemned the repeated targeting of civilians, revealing that Pakistan shelled the town of Rajouri, leading to the death of Raj Kumar Thapa, Additional District Development Commissioner.Damage to property and injuries to civilians were also reported in Ferozepur and Jalandhar during overnight attacks, Misri confirmed.
“Pakistan continues with its execrable and wanton campaign of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure,” he said, stressing that such actions reflect a deliberate escalation in hostile intent.
Denial of Claims About Missiles in Amritsar and Afghanistan
Pakistan’s claim that Indian missiles struck Amritsar Sahib was branded as an attempt to sow internal discord and divide communities. He also called Pakistan’s allegation that Indian missiles hit Afghanistan a “ludicrous and frivolous” accusation.“These lame attempts to divide India are doomed to fail,” Misri stated.
“Afghans do not need to be reminded which country has, over the past year and a half, repeatedly attacked civilian populations and infrastructure in Afghanistan,” he remarked, alluding to Pakistan’s role.
Democracy vs Propaganda
Responding to Pakistan's apparent delight in showcasing criticism of the Indian government by its own citizens, Misri said:“That is the hallmark of an open and functioning democracy. Pakistan’s unfamiliarity with that, again, should not be surprising.”
