Minister Sanjay Seth Thanks Russia for Support Against Cross-Border Terrorism​

New Delhi, May 10 — In a significant move to reinforce bilateral defence relations, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth met Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin during a visit to Russia from May 8–9. The two leaders discussed wide-ranging military cooperation and reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen defence ties amid evolving global security dynamics.

During the meeting, Seth expressed India’s gratitude to Russia for its steadfast support in New Delhi’s fight against state-sponsored cross-border terrorism, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.

Participation in the Victory Day Parade​

The visit coincided with Russia’s 80th Victory Day celebrations, commemorating Nazi Germany’s defeat in World War II. Seth represented India at the military parade held at Moscow’s Red Square on May 9, which was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and several foreign dignitaries.

He also laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, honoring fallen soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, and joined other international delegates in witnessing the grand ceremony.

Symbol of Strategic Partnership​

The Ministry of Defence noted that Seth's participation in the Victory Day events reflects the long-standing special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia. The two countries share deep-rooted military and technical ties, and the latest bilateral discussions aim to further solidify cooperation under existing institutional frameworks.

Enhancing Military and Technical Cooperation​

Both sides reviewed the current status of their multi-faceted military and military-technical cooperation, agreeing to strengthen collaboration and hold regular consultations in the context of the changing global landscape.

Engagement with the Indian Diaspora​

On the sidelines of the visit, Sanjay Seth also engaged with prominent members of the Indian diaspora at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, highlighting India's outreach to its citizens abroad and reinforcing cultural ties between the two nations.

The visit underscores India's strategic emphasis on deepening defense cooperation with traditional partners while navigating emerging global security challenges.
