United Nations, May 15
An Indian delegation held crucial meetings with senior officials of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) as part of a renewed push to designate The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), as a United Nations-listed terrorist organization.
The move follows the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which was allegedly orchestrated by TRF. In the aftermath, India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation.
Sources confirmed that an Indian technical team, currently stationed in New York, engaged with the Monitoring Team of the 1267 Sanctions Committee and representatives from other partner countries at the UN. These engagements are a part of India’s diplomatic campaign to secure international recognition of TRF’s terrorist links.
TRF had claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, which intensified calls from India for global action against entities operating as fronts for proscribed groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba.
India’s outreach underscores its broader strategy to highlight cross-border terrorism and seek multilateral support in counter-terrorism efforts at the global level.
