Government Initiative Follows Pahalgam Terror Attack and Operation Sindoor
New Delhi, May 17 – In a strong diplomatic move to underscore its stance against terrorism, the Indian government will dispatch seven all-party delegations to key partner countries, including members of the United Nations Security Council, later this month.The initiative is aimed at presenting India's unified and resolute approach in the global fight against terrorism in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
Nationwide Unity Reflected in Delegation Composition
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs confirmed the development in a statement issued Saturday. It noted that the delegations are meant to "project India's national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations."“These delegations will carry forth to the world the country's strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism,” the statement added.
Political Spectrum Represented in Selection of Delegates
The government has selected delegation leaders from both ruling and opposition parties to highlight national unity over political divisions. The leaders include:- Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP)
- Baijayant Panda (BJP)
- Shashi Tharoor (Congress)
- Sanjay Jha (JD(U))
- Kanimozhi (DMK)
- Supriya Sule (NCP-SP)
- Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena)
High-Level Representation and Global Outreach
According to the ministry, each delegation will also include distinguished diplomats and may visit up to five countries. These visits aim to further India’s diplomatic outreach and affirm its position on cross-border terrorism.Message of National Solidarity
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized the bipartisan nature of the mission in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “In moments that matter most, Bharat stands united. Seven All-Party Delegations will soon visit key partner nations, carrying our shared message of zero-tolerance to terrorism.”Sharing the ministry's statement, Rijiju added that this move is “a powerful reflection of national unity above politics, beyond differences.”
