Jet Went Down During Night Mission Near Jamnagar; Court of Inquiry Initiated
Ahmedabad, April 3 – The Indian Air Force (IAF) has initiated a Court of Inquiry after a Jaguar fighter jet crashed near the Jamnagar Air Force Station in Gujarat on Wednesday night, resulting in the tragic death of one pilot and injuries to another.In an official statement issued Thursday morning, the IAF confirmed that the aircraft, a two-seater Jaguar, was on a night training mission when it experienced a technical malfunction. The pilots attempted to eject, successfully steering the aircraft away from populated areas and the airfield to minimize damage.
One Pilot Killed, Another Undergoing Treatment
The crash occurred around 9:30 PM in an open field near Suvarda village, approximately 12 km from Jamnagar city. According to police reports, the aircraft caught fire upon impact.Jamnagar Superintendent of Police Premsukh Delu stated that one pilot was found injured at the crash site and was immediately transported to the government-run GG Hospital. A search operation was swiftly launched for the second pilot, who was later confirmed dead.
Fire Contained, Civilian Area Spared
District Collector Ketan Thakkar, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, reported that the fire, which engulfed the field post-crash, was brought under control by firefighting teams. Thankfully, no civilian casualties or damage to property were reported due to the pilots’ swift response.The Indian Air Force expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its personnel and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
