The Indian cricket team wore black armbands during their Champions Trophy semifinal clash against Australia on Tuesday in Dubai, honoring the memory of renowned domestic cricket legend Padmakar Shivalkar. Shivalkar passed away recently in Mumbai due to age-related ailments. He was 84.

Padmakar Shivalkar, widely regarded as one of India's finest domestic spinners, had an illustrious career playing for Mumbai. Although he never got the opportunity to represent India internationally—primarily because he played during an era dominated by legends like Bishan Singh Bedi—Shivalkar left an indelible mark in the domestic cricket circuit.

In his prolific first-class career spanning 124 matches for Mumbai, Shivalkar claimed an impressive 589 wickets with his exceptional left-arm spin bowling. His remarkable achievements on the cricketing field were recognized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which honored him with the prestigious CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.

India's current captain Rohit Sharma, who also hails from Mumbai, led the team in paying tribute to Shivalkar's legacy, reflecting the deep respect and admiration the cricket fraternity holds for the late spinner.

The black armbands symbolized India's homage to Shivalkar's enduring contributions and served as a poignant reminder of his exceptional yet understated cricketing journey.
