Kathmandu, Feb 2 (PTI) – In a crackdown on human trafficking, Nepal police arrested four individuals, including an Indian national, in Parsa district on Sunday for allegedly coercing women employed at their hotel and guesthouse into prostitution.
Acting on a tipoff, a special police team conducted raids at a hotel and a guesthouse in Birgunj metropolitan city, leading to the arrests. Among those detained are Manager Raya (35) from Bihar, India; Sukrati Chaudhari (32) from Mahottari; Dipesh Rai (33) from Okhaldhunga; and Mira Kumari Mahato (38) from Bara, according to an official police bulletin.
Authorities revealed that the accused were running an illicit operation, exploiting women working at their establishments. Two victims were rescued from their custody during the operation.
Further investigations are underway as police continue efforts to dismantle such trafficking networks in the region.
