Indian National Fatally Stabbed Near Ottawa; Suspect in Custody

Ottawa, April 5 — An Indian national was tragically stabbed to death in Rockland, a community located about 40 kilometres east of Ottawa, Canada. The High Commission of India in Ottawa confirmed the incident and stated that a suspect has been taken into custody by local authorities.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian mission expressed its grief:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in Rockland near Ottawa due to a stabbing. Police have stated a suspect has been taken into custody.”
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed. The High Commission also mentioned that it is working closely with a local community association to provide support to the deceased's family.

According to a report by CTV News, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident near Lalonde Street in Rockland just before 3 p.m. on Friday. Although initially described as a shooting incident, the Indian mission later confirmed it involved a fatal stabbing.

Authorities have not released details about the charges the suspect may face. However, the OPP emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

“As we are just in the early stages of the investigation, there is no further information that can be provided,” OPP told CTV News.
The investigation remains ongoing.
