New York, May 14 — A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the Bentley University community as Indian-origin student Gaurav Jaisingh lost his life in a tragic accident while on a senior class trip to the Bahamas, just days before his graduation.
Jaisingh, a resident of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and a student at Bentley University in Waltham, died on Sunday after an accidental fall from a hotel balcony on Paradise Island, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities in the Bahamas have confirmed that they are investigating the incident. As per preliminary reports, the 22-year-old student was inside a hotel room with roommates around 10 pm when he accidentally fell from an upper-level balcony. He was found unresponsive on a lower floor. Despite the swift response from emergency medical services, Jaisingh succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.Community in Mourning
Bentley University expressed deep sorrow over the loss. In a statement posted on X, the university said, “It’s been a difficult few days, and our community is feeling the emotional toll of the tragic loss of Gaurav Jaisingh ’25. Our hearts go out to Gaurav’s family and friends.”The university further announced that Jaisingh will be honored during the undergraduate commencement ceremony scheduled for May 17.
Student Leader and Community Member
Jaisingh was known for his active involvement on campus. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and participated in the university's South Asian Students Association, according to a report by ABC News.Bentley University emphasized that resources are being made available for students impacted by the tragedy, encouraging them to seek support through the campus counseling center.
“This is an enormous tragedy for our community,” the university stated, extending its condolences while also asking for respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
The investigation by local authorities in the Bahamas is ongoing.
