Indian shuttlers to attend preparatory camp in Guwahati ahead of Asia Mixed Team C'ships

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI): India's top badminton stars, including PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen, will fine-tune their skills at a five-day preparatory camp in Guwahati, starting Tuesday, ahead of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships in Qingdao, China.

Having secured a bronze medal in the 2023 edition, the Indian contingent aims to surpass its previous achievement in the prestigious tournament, scheduled from February 11 to 16. The team is set to depart for China on February 8.

Sanjay Mishra, Secretary General of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), emphasized the significance of the camp in fostering a competitive and collaborative environment for the players.

"A senior team camp here will also allow the juniors an opportunity to learn from the country’s finest while providing India’s top talents with a chance to train together, fostering team bonding ahead of this crucial event," Mishra stated in a release.

The camp, being held at the National Center of Excellence, will not only focus on refining technical skills but also instill key values like discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the players, ensuring their holistic development before the high-stakes competition.

The 14-member squad will be spearheaded by two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and Paris Olympics semi-finalist Lakshya Sen. The team also includes Asian Games gold medalists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, along with World and Asian Games bronze medalist HS Prannoy.

With a strong squad and a dedicated training phase, India is gearing up to make a significant impact at the upcoming Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships.
