Ceasefire Agreement Comes Amid Tensions Following Pahalgam Terror Strike

Jammu/Jaipur, May 11 – A soldier of the Indian Army was martyred after being struck by debris from a Pakistani drone that was intercepted by Army Air Defence forces over the Udhampur air base in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, according to official sources.

The drone, launched from across the border, targeted the Udhampur air base amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following retaliatory strikes by Indian forces on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

While the Indian Air Defence successfully intercepted the hostile drone mid-air, fragments from the explosion hit a jawan stationed at the base. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, the soldier succumbed to his injuries.

The fallen soldier has been identified as Surendra Singh Moga, a resident of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan. He was on active duty when the incident occurred.

Rajasthan CM Pays Tribute

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma mourned the loss and extended condolences to the soldier's family. In a message posted on X, Sharma wrote:

“The news of the martyrdom of Shri Surendra Singh Moga ji, a son of Rajasthan, a resident of Jhunjhunu, a soldier of the Indian Army, who attained martyrdom at Udhampur Air Base while performing his duty of national security is extremely sad.”

Ceasefire Declared

The tragic incident occurred on the same day that India and Pakistan announced a mutual ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. This development follows a week of intense cross-border military activity, triggered by the brutal killing of 26 civilians in the Pahalgam terror attack.

Despite the ceasefire taking effect on Saturday, the loss of life underscores the fragile situation and the continued threat posed by drone warfare in conflict zones.
