Chicago (USA), May 12 – India’s journey at the prestigious World Squash Championships came to an end on Sunday night, as all four participating players bowed out in the second round of the singles competition.

Anahat Singh’s Brave Effort Falls Short

In the women's singles category, 17-year-old Anahat Singh, India’s sole representative, put up a commendable fight before falling to Egypt’s Fayrouz Aboelkheir. Ranked 62nd in the world, Anahat managed to draw level after the second game but ultimately succumbed 1-3 in a 28-minute contest. The final scoreline read 7-11, 11-8, 4-11, 3-11.

Anahat had impressed in the opening round with a remarkable upset over world No. 28 Marina Stefanoni of the United States.

Indian Men Also Exit in the Second Round

In the men’s singles, all three Indian players — Abhay Singh, Veer Chotrani, and Ramit Tandon — were defeated by higher-ranked opponents.

Abhay Singh was outplayed by Egypt’s Youssef Ibrahim, the world No. 13, losing in straight games 6-11, 6-11, 9-11.

Veer Chotrani showed early promise by taking the first game against top-seeded Ali Farag, but the Egyptian star bounced back to win 3-1 (11-7, 7-11, 3-11, 10-12).

Ramit Tandon performed the most resiliently among the Indian men. In a five-game thriller against England’s eighth seed Marwan Elshorbagy, Tandon fought back from two games down to force a decider but eventually went down 2-3 (9-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 8-11).

Conclusion

India’s campaign at the World Squash Championships 2025 has concluded with all players falling in the second round. Despite the early exits, the performances, particularly from youngsters like Anahat Singh, offered glimpses of promise for the future of Indian squash.
