The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, or the Free Electricity Scheme, is rapidly becoming a game-changer in India's clean energy push. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024, the initiative is not limited to electricity generation alone; it is a major step toward savings, environmental protection, and self-reliance. Within just two years of its implementation, positive results are emerging across the country.
In the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, over 29,000 consumers across 16 districts have registered under the scheme so far. They feel it is bringing real change to people's lives at the grassroots level.
Yashovardhan Srivastava, a tax consultant from Bhopal, said that under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, they installed a solar panel at their home three years ago.
