Indore, February 28: Government Holkar Science College in Indore has expelled four student leaders after an inquiry found them guilty of holding around 150 people, including the principal and faculty members, hostage following a dispute over a Holi event.

The incident occurred on Monday when the college administration denied permission for the "Holkar Ka Holi Fest" event, which was scheduled for March 7 with an entry fee of ₹150. Despite the rejection, students had put up posters promoting the event, which were later removed by the college administration.

According to the investigation conducted by the district administration, the four student leaders spearheaded a protest against the removal of the posters on February 24. During the demonstration, they allegedly locked the doors of Yashwant Hall from outside while a meeting was underway, leaving 150 attendees, including Principal Anamika Jain and several professors, trapped inside for approximately 30 minutes. Additionally, the power supply to the hall was cut off, escalating tensions.

The disciplinary committee of the college took strict action by expelling the four student leaders and instructing them to collect their transfer certificates. The district administration's report classified their actions as "gross indiscipline" and recommended severe action.

The planned Holi event, which was to feature DJ performances and a rain dance, was reportedly sponsored by a coaching institute for civil services examinations. However, the college administration had refused to grant permission, citing policy concerns.

Established in 1891 by the Holkar rulers of Indore, Holkar Science College has a long-standing academic reputation. The recent incident has sparked discussions over student discipline and campus event regulations.
