POONCH, FEBRUARY 12: The District Development Commissioner of Poonch inspected the work on NH-144A (Package-VIII) from Poonch to Bhatta Dhuriya and directed officials to expedite the execution by resolving pending issues.

At Sheri Chawana, where work had been halted due to damage complaints exceeding the Right of Way (RoW), the DDC requested an immediate assessment by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the resumption of construction. In Madana, he ordered the completion of a new school building by April 2026 and directed the demolition of the existing structure during summer vacations to avoid disruption to academic activities.

At Potha Bypass, officials were instructed to facilitate the creation of a local pathway within the RoW and to restart the stalled work. In Surankote, residents who had not yet vacated despite receiving compensation were given a one-week notice, after which demolition would proceed to hand over the RoW to the Border Roads Organisation.

The DDC also directed the immediate repair of damaged PHE pipelines and the construction of protective gabion walls at vulnerable locations. Senior civil and BRO officials accompanied the inspection.
