Innovative Farming: Workshop Promotes Sustainable Horticulture in Kashmir.webp


Feb 11, Srinagar: CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu, through its field station at Bonera in Pulwama, organized a one-day workshop on integrating lavender and apiculture in horticultural production systems.Director CSIR-IIIM Jammu, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, attended the workshop and interacted with participants. He was accompanied by Dr. Sahid Rasool, the in-charge of the CSIR-IIIM field station in Pulwama, along with other scientists and technical experts.Around 100 apple orchardists from various districts of Kashmir participated in the program, which aimed to educate farmers about the benefits of integrating innovative crops such as lavender and beekeeping with traditional horticulture to enhance farm profitability and promote sustainable agro-ecosystems.The workshop focused on diversifying farming systems, adding value, and increasing income through the scientific integration of aromatic crops and apiculture in apple orchards.This initiative reflects CSIR-IIIM's efforts to strengthen farmers' livelihoods through innovation-driven agricultural practices and sustainable development models in Jammu and Kashmir.
