Punjab Kings Star Seamer Arshdeep Embraces Constructive Self-Criticism

Lucknow, April 1: Arshdeep Singh, the talented left-arm fast bowler for Punjab Kings (PBKS), has rapidly emerged as a trusted death-overs specialist in T20 cricket. After delivering a crucial performance in PBKS’s opening IPL match against Gujarat Titans—claiming key wickets of Sai Sudharsan and Sherfane Rutherford—the 26-year-old revealed that steady improvement, even as slight as half a percent after every game, is the secret behind his success.

Speaking exclusively to JioHotstar, Arshdeep emphasized, "The key is to improve by 1% to 1.5% after every game, every day—whether the performance was good or bad. I've always believed that the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement."

He added, "Whenever I get the chance, I engage in constructive self-criticism and strive to enhance my skill set, even if it's just by 1% or half a percent."

Positive about PBKS’s Chances Under Shreyas Iyer

Punjab Kings, led by the stylish batter Shreyas Iyer this IPL season, aim to finally clinch their maiden title. Arshdeep expressed optimism about the team's prospects, recalling his prior positive experiences under Iyer's leadership during the Duleep Trophy.

"I've played with Iyer before, under his captaincy in the Duleep Trophy, and I really enjoyed it. He always backed his players and gave them the freedom to express themselves," Arshdeep explained.

Speaking highly of Iyer's leadership approach, Arshdeep highlighted, "What I've noticed here is that his approach remains the same—he doesn't impose rigid instructions but encourages players to trust their skills and play for the team. He promotes a selfless approach, assuring full backing to the players. I truly admire this mindset, and as players, we will do our best to support him and help the team win back-to-back titles."

Thriving Under Pressure

Arshdeep Singh has made a reputation for thriving in high-pressure situations, evident in his impressive IPL career tally of 78 wickets from 66 matches, alongside a commendable international record of 99 wickets in 63 T20Is for India.

Reflecting on handling pressure, Arshdeep said, "I enjoy stepping up when the team is under pressure—whether it's stopping runs or taking wickets. When they hand me the ball in crucial moments, it feels good to know that they trust me."

"I genuinely enjoy the added responsibility, regardless of the situation," Arshdeep continued. "I try not to feel the pressure and instead focus on delivering my best for the team."

Acknowledging the reality of the game, he concluded, "Success doesn't come overnight, but I ensure that any setbacks don't affect my bowling. Every time I get another opportunity, I give my all to help the team win."

Arshdeep's commitment to continuous improvement and resilience under pressure makes him one of the key figures to watch in the IPL 2025.
