IPS Officer Vartika Katiyar Transferred After Allegations Against Senior Colleague Roopa D Moudgil

Bengaluru, March 3: IPS officer Vartika Katiyar was transferred with immediate effect on Monday, just days after she reportedly accused her senior colleague of "planting" files in her office. The sudden transfer has sparked discussions, although the official order from the Karnataka government did not specify any particular reason for the decision.

Katiyar, a 2010-batch IPS officer, had been serving as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Internal Security Division, Bengaluru. According to an official notification issued by the Karnataka government on March 3, she has now been appointed as Deputy Inspector General of Police & Additional Commandant General, Home Guards & Ex-officio Additional Director, Civil Defence, Bengaluru. The notification clarified that she would assume this downgraded and previously vacant position until further orders.

This development follows closely on the heels of Katiyar's recent written complaint submitted to Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh. In her complaint, Katiyar accused her senior colleague, Inspector General of Police Roopa D Moudgil, of instructing two junior officers to enter Katiyar’s office in her absence. Allegedly, these officers had taken keys from the control room and subsequently "planted" certain files in her office, raising serious concerns within the ranks.

Roopa D Moudgil, against whom the allegations were raised, is a senior IPS officer from the 2000 batch, currently holding the position of Inspector General of Police in the Internal Security Division, Bengaluru.

The government order regarding the transfer remained notably silent on whether the recent complaint was a factor in the decision, prompting speculation within police circles.
