Imphal, May 12 – Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr V Narayanan on Sunday revealed that 10 satellites are actively functioning round the clock for strategic purposes, reinforcing national security amid current geopolitical tensions.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the Central Agricultural University in Imphal, Manipur, Dr Narayanan emphasized India's growing prowess in space exploration and defense surveillance. "Today, 433 satellites of 34 countries have been launched from India and placed in orbit. I am also happy to inform you that 10 satellites are continuously working 24/7 for a strategic purpose to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of the country," he stated.

His remarks came in the backdrop of heightened security concerns following Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 to dismantle terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Dr Narayanan underlined the critical role of satellite and drone technology in national defense. "If we have to ensure the safety of our country, we have to serve through our satellites. We have to monitor our 7,000 km seashore and the entire northern part continuously. Without satellite and drone technology, we can't achieve that," he noted.

Looking ahead, the ISRO chief announced ambitious plans for India's space future, including the establishment of the country's first space station by 2040, marking a major milestone in India's space journey.

He also highlighted ISRO's global contributions, noting that the agency is currently working on a satellite for G20 nations aimed at monitoring climate change, air pollution, and weather patterns, further demonstrating India's commitment to environmental and scientific collaboration on the global stage.

Dr Narayanan lauded the nation’s strides in space and scientific development since independence, describing the progress as “phenomenal and outstanding.”

India's growing strategic and scientific footprint in space underscores its emergence as a vibrant space power, committed to security, sustainability, and innovation.
