A Compelling Tale of Resilience to Unveil in Milan

Acclaimed Italian filmmaker Ulisse Lendaro and distinguished Indian producer Jitendra Mishra have announced the world premiere of their much-awaited documentary, "The Saint of Brooklyn" (La Santa di Brooklyn), at the prestigious 32nd Sguardi Altrove Women’s International Film Festival. The screening is scheduled for March 13th, 2025, at the Wanted Clan cinema in Milan, Italy, as part of the esteemed FrameItalia section, which highlights contemporary Italian cinema.

Unveiling the Inspirational Story of Chiara Dituri

Filmed entirely in New York in 2024, the documentary revolves around the remarkable life of Chiara Dituri, an Italo-American boxer from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Trained at the iconic Gleason’s Gym, Chiara was destined for boxing greatness until a tragic accident in the ring abruptly ended her dreams. Rather than surrendering to defeat, Chiara chose resilience, transforming herself into a modern-day warrior whose story resonates powerfully with themes of perseverance, determination, and redemption.

In the gritty streets of Brooklyn, "The Saint of Brooklyn" captures the raw and emotional journey of a woman who refused to be defined by adversity.

Universal Message of Women’s Resilience and Strength

Director Ulisse Lendaro emphasizes the universal relevance of the documentary:

“This documentary is more than just Chiara’s journey; it is the journey of every woman who refuses to give up. While Chiara found her redemption in boxing, countless other women fight their own battles in different ways. This film is a universal message of resilience, a reminder that women, in all their diversity, share an unbreakable spirit.”

The film's world premiere coincides closely with International Women’s Day, amplifying its message of empowerment, resilience, and female strength.

Producer Jitendra Mishra further states:

“Women’s resilience is unparalleled, and 'The Saint of Brooklyn' embodies this essence. Through Chiara’s story, we hope to inspire audiences to recognize and celebrate the strength that women bring to the world every day. This is more than just a sports story—it’s a universal narrative of resilience and reinvention.”

International Recognition and Upcoming Screenings

The unique collaboration between Italy, India, and the United States has already drawn significant international attention. Italy’s prominent newspaper, Corriere della Sera, featured Chiara’s inspiring journey, acknowledging the film's profound narrative. Additionally, the documentary has been selected as a finalist at the upcoming Dumbo Film Festival in Brooklyn, set for October 2025, notably standing as the only Italian-Indian entry in competition.

With its world premiere in Milan, "The Saint of Brooklyn" begins its journey across the global film festival circuit, aiming to inspire and engage audiences worldwide through its powerful storytelling and cross-cultural collaboration.
