No need to panic, J-K has adequate supply of essential commodities: Govt.webp

Minister Satish Sharma Reassures Citizens on Food, Fuel, and Transport Availability

Jammu, May 10 – Amid the ongoing military conflict between India and Pakistan, the Jammu and Kashmir government has urged residents to remain calm and avoid panic buying, assuring that there is no shortage of essential commodities, including food grains, petroleum products, and cooking gas.

Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, addressed the public on Saturday, stating that the Union Territory has sufficient reserves and robust distribution systems in place to ensure uninterrupted supply of necessities.

"The general public is appealed to remain calm and avoid panic. There is no shortage of essential commodities," Sharma affirmed, adding that stocks are available at all distribution points across J&K.

Regular Supplies and Transport Services Ensured

Sharma, who also oversees the transport portfolio, said his department is actively monitoring the situation to maintain regular services and has deployed necessary arrangements to facilitate transport and commodity distribution.

"We have adequate reserves, and my team of dedicated officers is taking timely decisions to ensure smooth supply chains," he said.
He also expressed appreciation for the support of trader associations and federations, whose cooperation has been instrumental in maintaining the availability of goods during this period of heightened tension.

Strict Measures Against Overpricing and Hoarding

Addressing concerns around transportation and pricing, the minister said all vehicles are operating in accordance with official advisories. He warned that strict action is being taken against transport operators found overcharging passengers.

"Fare regulations are being enforced strictly. We urge citizens not to believe in rumours and discourage any hoarding or price manipulation," Sharma stated.

Call for Unity and Vigilance

Reiterating his appeal for public cooperation, Sharma urged citizens to follow all official advisories and refrain from spreading misinformation.

"Let us stand together, remain calm and follow all advisories to ensure the safety and stability of our society," he said, extending his best wishes for the safety and well-being of all residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
The minister's statement comes as a timely reassurance amidst rising anxiety due to the ongoing cross-border military engagements.
