Srinagar, May 17 — Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured residents of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district that a comprehensive rehabilitation plan would be developed to seek central assistance for those affected by cross-border shelling.

Speaking to reporters in the Tangdhar area, LG Sinha acknowledged the extent of damage caused by shelling from across the border.

“Many houses and commercial properties have suffered due to the adversary's shelling. Today, I visited these sites along with senior administrative officers to assess the ground situation and personally interact with the affected families,” he said.

Sinha confirmed that the administration has already conducted a loss assessment and initiated the disbursement of immediate relief.

“Those who have not received aid yet will be assisted today itself,” he assured.

However, he noted that the current relief measures are not sufficient. To address this, he stated that the Union Territory government will approach the Centre with a detailed proposal for additional support.

“A comprehensive plan will be prepared by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and senior officials, outlining the total damage. On the basis of this report, we will formally request support from the Central government to ensure full rehabilitation of the affected population,” the Lieutenant Governor added.
