Jaishankar on IMEC: Connectivity, Logistics, and Trade.webp

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar stated that the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is designed to ensure connectivity, logistics, and trade. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference yesterday, Dr. Jaishankar emphasized that urgent reforms are needed for the United Nations to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities and remain effective in addressing today's global challenges.

Discussing India's oil procurement, the Minister said that oil companies in India, as in Europe and other parts of the world, consider factors such as availability, cost, and risk when making decisions. He stressed that the world is moving towards greater multipolarity and there will be many more independent or autonomous centers of decision-making.

The External Affairs Minister also engaged with G7 Foreign Ministers on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. He reiterated India's support for the UN@80 agenda, particularly meaningful reform of the UN Security Council.

In a social media post, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the country's role in safeguarding sea lines of communication, acting as a first responder, strengthening port security, and contributing to resilient submarine cable infrastructure. The External Affairs Minister said that their conversation highlighted the many convergences and shared interests between India and the G7.
