Srinagar, March 1: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday instructed the Power Department to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply, especially during Sehri and Iftar times throughout the holy month of Ramadan, beginning Sunday.

In a high-level review meeting chaired by Abdullah to oversee Ramadan preparations, the Chief Minister emphasized that the people rightly expect proactive measures from their elected representatives to avoid inconvenience during this sacred period.

"As the holy month of Ramadan begins tomorrow, the people rightfully expect the government to take all necessary measures to ensure they do not face any difficulties," Abdullah stated.

Priority on Power Supply During Critical Times

Addressing the pressing issue of power outages, Abdullah directed authorities to plan any necessary shutdowns or maintenance tasks strictly during the day, ensuring uninterrupted supply during Sehri and Iftar timings. He emphasized immediate attention to faulty distribution transformers (DTs) or system issues to minimize disruption.

"People want, and we must strive to ensure that there are no power outages during Sehri and Iftar times," he said.

Adequate Potable Water and Sanitation Arrangements

The Chief Minister noted improvements in the water supply situation, attributing them to the recent snowfall and rainfall. He instructed officials to continue efforts in providing sufficient potable water to all households.

"By the grace of Allah, the recent rainfall over the past few days has been beneficial in this regard," Abdullah remarked.
Abdullah further stressed maintaining cleanliness around mosques, shrines, and significant public places, urging relevant departments to coordinate efficiently.

Security and Traffic Management Enhanced

Highlighting security as a crucial component, Abdullah noted that the Inspectors General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir have already addressed security concerns. He also instructed Deputy Commissioners across the region to establish fully operational and adequately staffed district control rooms to address public grievances swiftly.

"Our collective effort should be to ensure a smooth and hassle-free Ramadan for the people," Abdullah reiterated, emphasizing the administration's responsibility.
Earlier in the meeting, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Bidhuri, provided a detailed report on preparations, covering electricity demands during peak hours, water supply arrangements, sanitation drives, ration distribution for March, market inspections, food safety measures, traffic deployment plans, and security arrangements.

The meeting was conducted through both physical presence and virtual conferencing, reflecting the administration's comprehensive approach toward ensuring smooth Ramadan arrangements.
