Government Affirms Dedication to Inclusive Development and Good Governance in Historic Assembly Session

Jammu, March 3: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday reiterated the government’s firm commitment to addressing the aspiration for full statehood in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that the administration recognizes its deep emotional and political significance for the region's people.

Addressing the first Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in seven years, Sinha stated, “One of the foremost aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is the restoration of full statehood. My government remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing this aspiration.”

Historic Assembly Session Marks Commitment to Transparency

Highlighting the historic nature of the ongoing session, Sinha emphasized it was more than a legislative formality, calling it a clear reflection of the administration's dedication to good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.

“This budget carries historic significance as it is the first in seven years to be presented by an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. It symbolizes the power of the people, prepared by their elected representatives,” Sinha remarked, underscoring that the budget represented more than mere financial plans—it encapsulated the hopes and aspirations of the region's residents.

Government Committed to Engagement and Prosperity

Further underlining the administration's pledge to inclusivity, Sinha stated the government is committed to engaging with all stakeholders to realize the region's collective ambitions. “We recognize the emotional and political significance of this aspiration and are committed to engaging with all stakeholders,” he affirmed.

Sinha also assured that the administration remains committed to maintaining peace and prosperity, emphasizing a commitment to fulfilling promises made to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.

Positive Economic Growth Despite Challenges

Discussing economic developments, the Lieutenant Governor noted that despite various challenges, the economy of Jammu and Kashmir has demonstrated commendable growth. He reaffirmed the government's ongoing efforts to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a progressive and vibrant economy.

“The economy has shown notable growth despite challenges. The government is working to make Jammu and Kashmir a progressive economy,” said Sinha.

Second Assembly Session Since NC-led Government Formation

This budget session marks only the second Assembly gathering since the establishment of the National Conference (NC)-led government in the Union Territory. Previously, the Assembly convened in Srinagar from November 4 to 8 last year, shortly after the government's formation.

In August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir saw the revocation of its special status under Article 370 by the central government, which bifurcated the state into two separate Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
