Jammu, May 10 – In light of the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Jammu and Kashmir government issued an urgent advisory on Saturday urging citizens to refrain from spreading or engaging with rumours, particularly on social media. The government emphasised the critical importance of public cooperation in preserving peace and order during these challenging times.

In an official statement, the administration commended citizens for their continued resilience and trust following the May 7 missile strikes conducted by Indian armed forces on terror infrastructure across the border.

“Misinformation and unverified claims circulating on social media can cause unnecessary panic. The residents are strongly advised to avoid engaging with or spreading rumours. Trust only credible news channels and government communications for accurate information,” the statement read.

Preparedness and Emergency Measures in Place​

Reassuring the public of its readiness, the government stated that it is fully equipped to manage any exigency and is closely monitoring the situation on the ground. The statement further urged the general public to remain calm and follow standard operating procedures issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the government.

The health department has also activated emergency protocols and is on standby to manage any potential medical crises.

Media Responsibility and Information Protocols​

The administration called on both the public and media personnel to act responsibly while sharing information. It stressed that all verified updates will be communicated only through official government channels.

“The cooperation of the public in maintaining peace and discipline during these times is crucial. Public in general and mediapersons in particular are requested to be responsible in sharing information and follow the guidelines issued by government in this regard,” the statement added.
