New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) – Janata Dal (United) Member of Parliament Lovely Anand on Tuesday urged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in recognition of their significant contributions to governance and development.
Speaking during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in the Lok Sabha, Anand, who represents Sheohar in Bihar, lauded the leadership of both Modi and Kumar, emphasizing their transformative impact on the nation and the state of Bihar.
“The mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas’ is being fully realized under their leadership,” Anand remarked, highlighting the inclusive approach of both leaders in fostering development.
Anand also drew a comparison between the current governance in Bihar and the state's past under former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. Recalling the law and order challenges of that time, she asserted, “Under Lalu Ji’s rule, people lived in constant fear. There was no guarantee of returning home safely in the evening.” In contrast, Anand credited Nitish Kumar with restoring stability and improving safety for Bihar’s residents.
In defending her call for Modi and Kumar to receive the Bharat Ratna, Anand drew a historical parallel with Jawaharlal Nehru, the first recipient of the prestigious award. She questioned, “What was the state of the country before Modi Ji took charge?” adding that Modi’s leadership had brought significant progress and change to India.
Anand further highlighted the rapid development occurring under the current government, stating, “So much is happening in the country today,” referring to the ambitious initiatives and reforms being implemented at the national level.
The JD(U), a key ally in the NDA coalition at both the Centre and in Bihar, continues to support Modi’s administration and Nitish Kumar’s leadership in the state.
