JD(U) to Strengthen Grassroots Presence Across Jharkhand: Khiru Mahto.webp

Ranchi, May 12 – In a significant organisational push, Janata Dal (United) Jharkhand unit president Khiru Mahto announced on Monday that the party will be strengthening its presence across all levels in the state, from villages to the capital, ahead of upcoming local elections.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a new JD(U) office in Ranchi, Mahto said that district-level leadership and coordination are being streamlined to energize the party's grassroots base.

“We have appointed people in charge of all 24 districts during our working committee meeting. Now is the time to reach out to villages to begin the process of strengthening the party from the village to the state level,” he stated.

District presidents, along with other key party workers, were present at the meeting, which focused on strategies to build a robust party network at the panchayat and block levels. Mahto emphasized that these in-charges will work closely with district presidents to ensure an active presence of the JD(U) in all local administrative units.

Focus on Upcoming Local Elections

With the urban local body (ULB) and panchayat elections approaching, JD(U) is preparing to make a significant impact. However, Mahto clarified that the nature of the party’s participation will depend on the government's stance regarding whether the polls will be held on a party basis.

Saryu Roy, JD(U)’s lone MLA in Jharkhand, also addressed the issue, stating, “Whether the ULB and panchayat polls will be contested on a party basis will be decided by the government. If the elections are non-party based, our workers will still participate actively.”

Roy expressed confidence in the party’s strength on the ground, adding, “We are confident that party-supported candidates will win in large numbers.”

At present, both urban and rural local elections in Jharkhand are conducted on a non-party basis. Despite this, JD(U) appears determined to mobilize its cadre and assert its presence across the state’s electoral landscape.
