Jewellery Shop Robbery Bid Foiled in Dhamtari, Owner and Daughter Injured

Dhamtari, May 14 — A robbery attempt at Baradia Jewellers in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari town turned violent on Tuesday night, leaving a 60-year-old shop owner and his daughter injured after an attack by two masked assailants.

The incident occurred around 8:45 pm in the Power House area, when Bhavru Baradia and his daughter Naina Baradia (25) were at their jewellery store. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Manishankar Chandra, the assailants first attacked Bhavru Baradia with the butt of a gun. As his daughter tried to intervene, she was shot in the leg.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the attackers used an air gun. The sound of the gunshot alerted people nearby, prompting them to rush to the scene. The sudden arrival of the crowd forced the attackers to flee the premises without stealing anything.

Both victims sustained injuries — Naina from the gunshot and Bhavru from the assault — and were immediately attended to. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the culprits. An investigation is ongoing.
