Ranchi, March 4: Jharkhand's education system faces a significant challenge, with 7,930 state-run schools currently operating with only one teacher each, Education Minister Ramdas Soren revealed in the state assembly on Tuesday.

Responding to a query raised by BJP MLA Raj Sinha regarding the acute shortage of teachers in the state, Minister Soren highlighted that approximately 3.81 lakh students are enrolled in these single-teacher institutions, underscoring the scale of the crisis.

Adding to the complexities of the situation, Soren further disclosed that 103 government schools in Jharkhand have no students enrolled, yet 17 teachers are posted across these institutions.

To tackle the issue of low student enrollment, Minister Soren informed the assembly about a new initiative similar to the nationwide "School Chalo Abhiyan," aimed at bringing students back to classrooms.

Addressing the critical shortage of educators, the minister assured that the recruitment process for approximately 26,000 assistant teachers is underway. This recruitment is expected to significantly improve the student-teacher ratio and enhance the overall quality of education across the state.

The revelations underline an urgent need for systemic reforms and immediate action to address Jharkhand's educational challenges and ensure better learning environments for thousands of students currently affected by the severe teacher shortage.
