Focus on Self-Reliance in Agriculture and Livestock Sectors

Ranchi, May 14 — In a move to encourage entrepreneurship and improve self-reliance in livestock production, the Jharkhand government is working on a subsidy scheme for egg production, a senior official confirmed on Wednesday.

State Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey has directed her department to draft a proposal for subsidy-based support aimed at enhancing egg production. The directive came during a monthly departmental review meeting held on Tuesday evening in Ranchi.

“The department’s goal is to align egg production with the demand across Jharkhand. The proposed subsidy will serve as financial assistance for individuals engaged in or planning to enter egg production,” the minister said.

Cluster-Based Approach for Livestock Development

Tirkey emphasized adopting a cluster-based format for livestock-related benefits, particularly focusing on blocks, panchayats, and villages affected by migration. This approach is expected to improve implementation efficiency and targeted impact.

In line with this strategy, the government plans to set up 88 clusters to promote natural farming across the state, further strengthening Jharkhand’s rural agricultural framework.

Training Push for Village-Level Workers

The minister also highlighted the importance of enhancing technical know-how at the grassroots level. Village-level workers (VLWs) will be organized into groups and receive expert training from Birsa Agricultural University (BAU).

According to an official release, this training initiative will empower VLWs with up-to-date knowledge of scientific farming practices and technological advancements, enabling them to better support farmers in their respective areas.

The proposed reforms are part of the state’s broader efforts to modernize agriculture and animal husbandry, while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in rural Jharkhand.
