Ranchi, February 27 – The Jharkhand government tabled supplementary demands worth ₹5,508 crore in the state Assembly on Thursday during the ongoing 20-day budget session. Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore presented the third supplementary budget for the 2024-25 financial year.

The Energy Department is set to receive the highest allocation of ₹971.80 crore, followed by the Rural Works Department with ₹873.29 crore and the Home, Jail, and Disaster Management Department with ₹502.61 crore. Additionally, ₹500 crore has been proposed for the Pension Department, while the School Education and Literacy Department is likely to get ₹393.93 crore.

The supplementary budget was tabled after the call attention motion. Notably, this follows the second supplementary budget of ₹11,697.45 crore, which was presented in December 2024. A debate on the newly proposed supplementary budget is scheduled for Friday.

Assembly Witnesses Heated Exchange Over Maiyan Samman Yojana

Earlier in the day, the Assembly witnessed a tense debate over the Maiyan Samman Yojana during Question Hour. BJP MLA CP Singh questioned the delay in the transfer of benefits under the scheme and sought clarification on whether the pending payments would be credited before Eid.

Responding to the query, Minister Chamra Linda assured that payments for January and February would be disbursed by March 15, likely before Holi. The Maiyan Samman Yojana provides ₹2,500 per month to over 56 lakh women beneficiaries in the state. However, beneficiaries have not yet received payments for the last two months.

Singh further pressed the government on whether widows and physically challenged women, who currently receive a pension of ₹1,000 per month, would also be eligible under the Maiyan Samman Yojana. In response, Minister Linda highlighted that the Hemant Soren government had introduced the Vidhwa Punarvivah Protsahan Yojana (Widow Remarriage Incentive Scheme), under which widows receive a one-time incentive of ₹2 lakh. He added that if the central government increases the pension amount for widows and differently-abled individuals, the state government would also consider a revision.

Upcoming State Budget and Legislative Session

The Jharkhand state budget for 2025-26 will be presented on March 3, marking the first budget of the newly formed Hemant Soren-led government since the JMM-led alliance secured victory in the November 2024 elections.

The budget session, which commenced on February 24, will continue until March 27.
