Jamshedpur, February 28 – In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police arrested 13 peddlers, including a woman, in Jharkhand’s industrial city of Jamshedpur on Friday. Authorities seized 150 grams of brown sugar worth approximately ₹15 lakh from the accused, Superintendent of Police (City) Kumar Subhadhish confirmed.

During a press conference, SP Subhadhish revealed that the key figure behind the racket was sourcing narcotics from Odisha and Adityapur in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district. The contraband was then distributed in Jugsalai and other parts of Jamshedpur through the arrested peddlers.

Following intelligence inputs on drug-peddling activities in Jugsalai, police formed a special team to apprehend the suspects. A series of coordinated raids led to the arrest of the 13 individuals. In addition to the brown sugar, law enforcement recovered eight mobile phones, a weighing machine, ₹7,920 in cash, and other incriminating materials.

Further investigations revealed that three of the arrested individuals were also involved in a recent firing incident in Jugsalai, adding to their criminal history.

All the accused were presented before a local court and have been remanded to judicial custody. Authorities continue to probe the extent of the drug network in the region.
