Orange Alert Issued Across 20 Districts Due to Bay of Bengal Moisture Influx​

Ranchi, May 17 – The Meteorological Centre in Ranchi has issued an orange alert for several regions of Jharkhand, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds expected to hit the state on Sunday, May 18. The change in weather is attributed to a surge of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal.

Weather System and Impact​

According to a weather bulletin, thunderstorms with gusts reaching up to 60 kmph are forecast for the southern, central, and northeastern parts of Jharkhand, potentially affecting around 20 districts.
Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, stated, “The change in weather is likely to be experienced from Saturday with the possibility of light rains and strong winds due to incursion of moisture from the Bay of Bengal.”

Rainfall Forecast and Temperature Drop​

The bulletin also predicts light to moderate rainfall in various parts of the state until May 21, offering relief from the scorching heat. A drop of up to 4°C in maximum temperatures is expected over the next two days.
