New Delhi, Feb 28 – Jio’s True 5G Standalone (SA) network successfully managed an enormous surge in data and voice traffic during the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, handling 20 million voice and 400 million data service requests on a peak day, according to a statement.
To prepare for the high density of visitors, Jio partnered with Ericsson to deploy advanced network solutions, leveraging SA features such as network slicing, carrier aggregation using the 700 MHz band, and Voice over New Radio (VoNR). These implementations ensured seamless connectivity for millions of devotees attending the spiritual gathering.
Ericsson highlighted that the Jio True 5G SA network delivered an exceptional customer experience despite record participation at the event. Attendees extensively shared images and videos while staying connected with their families, making the festival one of the most digitally active Maha Kumbhs in history.
"The unprecedented voice and data traffic demand was met through proactive planning, advanced design, and innovative mega capacity solutions, alongside real-time traffic monitoring by Jio and Ericsson," the company stated.
Vijay Sharma, Head of Customer Unit Reliance Jio at Ericsson, emphasized the scale of the network's performance, stating, "During one of the peak days, Jio’s network catered to 20 million voice and 400 million data service requests successfully. Ericsson 5G solutions handled approximately 55% of the total data traffic during the event."
The Maha Kumbh 2025, which commenced on January 13, has already drawn an estimated 66.21 crore visitors to Prayagraj, reinforcing its status as one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
This successful deployment underscores Jio's technological capabilities and Ericsson's role in ensuring robust and uninterrupted connectivity at one of India’s most significant events.
