JNU VC suspends professor accused in corruption case

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – The Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Santishree Pandit, has suspended Professor Rajeev Sijariya following his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case.

Sijariya, a professor at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee School of Management and Entrepreneurship at JNU, was found prima facie involved in a bribery case linked to securing a favorable A++ accreditation rating for the Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KLEF) in Vaddeswaram, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

According to the official suspension order issued by JNU, Sijariya has been placed "under suspension with immediate effect from the services of the university, pending the outcome of the Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry and departmental inquiry."

The case escalated when the CBI arrested the chairman and six members of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) inspection committee, including Sijariya, on February 1. The arrests stem from allegations of bribery in the accreditation process.

The investigation into the matter continues, with authorities examining the extent of corruption in the accreditation system.
