Juliette Binoche to head Cannes Film Festival 2025 jury

Los Angeles, Feb 4 (PTI) – Acclaimed French actor Juliette Binoche has been named the president of the international jury for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career.

Binoche, a multiple award-winning performer, made her Cannes debut 40 years ago with André Téchiné’s Rendez-vous in 1985. Her appointment brings her journey with the prestigious festival full circle, as she now takes on the esteemed role of jury president at the 78th edition of the event, scheduled to run from May 13 to May 24, 2025, according to Variety.

The celebrated actor, known for her performances in Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights, Chocolat, The English Patient, Dan in Real Life, and Certified Copy, expressed her gratitude and humility upon receiving the honor.

“In 1985, I walked up the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a young actress; I never imagined I’d return 40 years later in the honorary role of president of the jury. I appreciate the privilege, the responsibility, and the absolute need for humility,” Binoche stated.

She succeeds filmmaker Greta Gerwig, who led the Cannes jury in 2024 following the success of her blockbuster film Barbie.

Most recently, Binoche starred in The Return, a 2024 drama directed by Uberto Pasolini, where she reunited with Ralph Fiennes, her co-star from The English Patient.

With Binoche at the helm, the 2025 Cannes Film Festival promises a blend of cinematic excellence and deep artistic appreciation, continuing its legacy as one of the most prestigious film events in the world.
