Sambhal, May 11 – A Junior Engineer (JE) with the electricity department was arrested on Sunday for allegedly cheating individuals out of Rs 30 lakh by issuing fake government job appointment letters and accepting fraudulent online electricity payments, police officials said.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (South) Anukriti Sharma, the accused, identified as Vijay Pal Singh and a resident of Chandausi city, promised several individuals employment in government departments in exchange for money. Singh allegedly handed out counterfeit appointment letters to reinforce the deception.

Further investigations revealed that Singh also defrauded people by offering fake electricity connections and collecting online bill payments under false pretences.

Police confirmed that Singh already had four criminal cases registered against him. After his arrest, he was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

The case has raised concerns over fraudulent recruitment practices and the exploitation of public trust in official departments. Authorities are continuing their probe to determine the full extent of the scam and identify any additional victims.
