Mumbai, Feb 3 (PTI) – Activist Anjali Damania has intensified her demand for justice in the murder case of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, asserting that no fair trial is possible as long as NCP leader Dhananjay Munde remains a minister in the Maharashtra cabinet.

Addressing the media on Monday, Damania claimed to have gathered crucial evidence linking Munde to the case and announced plans to disclose key details at a press conference on Tuesday. She accused the state government of shielding Munde due to his political influence, despite the arrest of his close aide, Walmik Karad, in an extortion case related to the murder.

Murder Linked to Extortion Case

Deshmukh was murdered on December 9 for opposing an extortion attempt against an energy firm operating a windmill project in Beed district. Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder, while one suspect remains at large. Additionally, three persons, including Karad, have been apprehended for their involvement in the extortion case. Karad has also been booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Damania’s Ultimatum to the Government

Damania criticized the state leadership for failing to act against Munde despite her four-day ultimatum. "There can be no justice in the Deshmukh murder case as long as Munde continues to be in the state cabinet," she asserted. She claimed to have personally met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, alleging that their close ties with Munde have prevented any action against him.

Allegations of Corruption

The activist further questioned Munde’s credibility as a minister, accusing him of protecting individuals like Karad. "If people who promote terror and commit atrocities are given ministerial positions, we cannot accept that," she stated.

Damania also hinted at broader corruption allegations, claiming she has previously exposed major financial scandals. “I have already uncovered the coal scam, black money transactions, and how government companies were misused for personal gain. I will reveal more evidence tomorrow on the misuse of government machinery by a minister,” she added.

Appeal to Religious Leaders

Damania announced plans to take her evidence to Bhagwangad, urging the Vanjari community’s religious leadership to withdraw their support for Munde. "If they find my evidence credible, they should demand his resignation. If this happens, Maharashtra will salute Bhagwangad," she declared.

She further called on Namdev Shastri Maharaj, a spiritual leader of the Vanjari community, to support the Deshmukh family in their fight for justice. "The biggest obstacle to justice is Munde. Bhagwangad must now ensure his resignation for the Deshmukh family to get justice," she concluded.

The controversy continues to escalate, with Damania’s revelations expected to intensify political pressure on the Maharashtra government in the coming days.
