Karnataka BJP rebels reach Delhi, seek Nadda's intervention to remove Vijayendra

New Delhi/Bengaluru, Feb 3 (PTI) – A faction of disgruntled BJP leaders from Karnataka has arrived in Delhi, seeking the removal of the state unit chief B.Y. Vijayendra. The rebel group, led by MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi, along with former legislators Kumar Bangarappa and Shrimant Patil, aims to press their demands directly before BJP national president J.P. Nadda.

The faction, dissatisfied with Vijayendra’s leadership, plans to stay in Delhi for two days in hopes of securing a meeting with Nadda. Sources suggest that more MLAs, including Basangouda Patil Yatnal and B.P. Harish, as well as former legislators Arvind Limbavali and Pratap Simha, are expected to join the delegation on Tuesday.

Rebel Demands and Leadership Concerns

The dissenters, spearheaded by Vijayapura MLA Yatnal, criticize Vijayendra’s leadership, citing BJP’s recent by-poll losses. They accuse him of engaging in "adjustment politics" and failing to provide a strong opposition against the ruling Congress government in Karnataka.

With the state party president elections approaching, the rebels are strategically pushing for a leadership change. They have hinted at fielding their own candidate against Vijayendra if their demands are not addressed, a move that could deepen internal rifts within the party.

Nadda’s Role and Strategic Timing

The rebel faction believes they have a strong chance of meeting Nadda, especially after party leader Arvind Limbavali recently met him. Their previous attempt last month to reach Nadda was unsuccessful, but this time, they remain optimistic despite the ongoing Delhi Assembly elections and the Budget session.

Before embarking on their Delhi mission, the rebel leaders sought divine intervention, visiting the Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru to seek blessings.

The political maneuvering comes at a crucial juncture for the BJP in Karnataka, with leadership tensions threatening to disrupt party unity ahead of key electoral battles.
