Bengaluru, May 10 — Amid escalating security concerns nationwide, the Karnataka government has suspended all police leaves until further notice, Home Minister G Parameshwara announced on Saturday. The move comes as part of the state’s heightened preparedness in response to the ongoing “war-like situation” in the country.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Parameshwara stated that police personnel across the state would remain on duty round-the-clock until the central government confirms a return to normalcy. “We will not approve any leaves or holidays of policemen at this juncture because we don’t know when normalcy returns,” he said.

Coastal Security on High Alert

Parameshwara emphasized the importance of bolstering coastal security, drawing from past wartime experiences. “Security should be strong in the coastal regions, right from Uttar Kannada to Dakshina Kannada. We have to be alert all along the coastline,” he said.

Currently, a three-tier security system is in place in the coastal belt, comprising the state police, port authorities, and the Indian Navy.

High-Level Meeting by CM Siddaramaiah

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to convene a high-level meeting this evening with officials from the Home and Revenue Departments. The agenda includes reviewing the state’s preparedness to tackle any emergent crisis, particularly ensuring the availability of essential supplies.

“All the necessary arrangements, such as ensuring availability of food grains, essential commodities, water, hospitals, and medicines, have to be made. It is just a preparation,” Parameshwara said.

The CM will also review any new advisories issued by the Centre, which has circulated a set of directives to all states in light of the current security climate.

Statewide Vigilance Intensified

Parameshwara confirmed that Karnataka has implemented heightened security measures around sensitive locations across the state. “We have tightened the security in and around sensitive locations. We have also identified some locations where suspicious activities can happen. We have sensitised all the locations in the state,” he said.

The state government reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of its citizens during this period of heightened alert.
