Karnataka Declared Naxal-Free: CM Siddaramaiah Announces Disbandment of Anti-Naxal Force, Strengthens Cyber Crime Division

Bengaluru, March 7 – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while presenting the state budget for FY 2025-26, announced the disbandment of the state’s Anti-Naxal Force (ANF), declaring Karnataka free from Naxalite presence. The move follows the successful surrender of six underground Naxals under the government's rehabilitation program.

The Chief Minister emphasized that maintaining law and order is crucial for the state’s economic growth and reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy against any disruption of social harmony.

Naxal Rehabilitation and Security Enhancements

Siddaramaiah highlighted that the surrendered Naxals would be reintegrated into society, and to facilitate development in affected regions, a special package of ₹10 crore has been allocated.

Further, under the Bengaluru Safe City Project, implemented at a cost of ₹667 crore, the government has installed 7,500 surveillance cameras, deployed 10 drones, and provided 560 body-worn cameras to enhance policing efficiency. Additionally, 60 women outposts have been set up to improve security for women and children, ensuring immediate police assistance.

Boosting Law Enforcement & Cybersecurity

The budget also focuses on increasing police mobility and crime prevention measures:
  • ₹50 crore was allocated under the Police Mobility Scheme for the procurement of 1,000 new vehicles to strengthen the Home Department.
  • ₹5 crore earmarked for strengthening the Cyber Crime Division, addressing the rising threat of cybercrimes.
  • Two Indian Reserve Battalions to be established in Kudugurki near Nandi Hills and KGF, with a provision of ₹80 crore.
  • The number of Bengaluru police divisions will increase from 8 to 11 to improve policing efficiency.
  • Four new Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads will be set up in Bellary, Davanagere, Mysuru, and Bengaluru Central Zones.

Infrastructure & Modernization Initiatives

The budget also includes:
  • ₹100 crore allocated for the Prison Department to enhance basic infrastructure.
  • ₹330 crore for the modernization of Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department under the 15th Finance Commission grants.
  • Completion of seven new police station buildings, which will soon be inaugurated.
The budget underscores Karnataka’s commitment to reinforcing law enforcement, tackling cybercrime, and ensuring public safety through robust infrastructure and modern policing techniques.
